The Princess launched on Saturday, March 26, 1966 in Vancouver, BC. and has faithfully served the mission of Young Life for more than half a century. In that time, the vessel has made approximately 800 trips to and from Malibu, and transported over 200,000 campers, having never missed a single opportunity to sail.
Phase IV is broken down into three subphases
Appropriate refitting of the vessel is addressed in subphases I and II. Subphase I will prioritize essential mechanical and safety components. Subphase II will focus on renovating interior seating and the kitchen/snack bar, as well as replacing upper level windows, and giving the ship a fresh coat of paint.
SUBPHASE I: SYSTEMS & EXTERIOR
- 2 new engines, refurbished engine room
- Drives, gears, propellers, & rudders
- Reset windows (lower level)
- Steel work on the hull
We expect the improvements from Subphase I to increase the life of the Malibu Princess 20 years.
SUBPHASE II: INTERIOR & AMENITIES
- Complete washroom renovation
- Reset windows (upper level)
- Steel work and environmental improvements
- New kitchen & snack bar
- Interior flooring, paint & furnishings
SUBPHASE III: THE BACK HARBOUR
- The Boat House with upstairs apartment, 4 slips for ski boats, and one repair slip
- Gas dock with crane area and moorage for work boats
- Garbage dock relocation
- ‘Back Yard’ work area and utility relocation
The Back Harbour houses Malibu’s ski boats, work boats, gas dock, repair shop and provides moorage. Our ability to operate on the water keeps Malibu running. The new boat house with an added upstairs apartment will provide much needed additional staff housing and will help decrease boat maintenance expenses.
THE PRINCESS & THE BACK HARBOUR BUDGET
- Subphase I: $1,685,000
- Subphase II: $1,600,000
- The Back Harbour: $750,000
Total Budget: $4,035,000
